Protect Me

I am a black woman

Strong, Protector, Provider?

No protect me

I am a black woman

Tired, scared, unseen

In a world that rejects me, but yet built by me

In a world that rejects me but yet populated by me

In a world that rejects me, rapes me, kills me, betrays me, Am I still “the strong black woman”?

Expected to take all this pain, and still nurture

Expected to watch my child die and yet still endure labor

A labor itself now designed to take away my black body

Killing us off every way possible is this country’s new hobby

Killing us during childbirth to spare us the pain of raising these children just to see them get slain

Rest in Peace to the black children taken from us

George, Breonna, Amaud, Atatiana and many more

A black mothers worst nightmare coming full force

Our  voices hold weight, our voices hold pain, the life of a black woman many wouldn’t choose to partake

So we say protect the black woman, hold us up high

In a world where simply giving life, can lead to our goodbye
