My Satin Line Bonnet

By Thati J |Tuesday, May 20, 2025 | 8:00 AM EDT

It’s a crown of honor not many are blessed with

Filled with kinks and curls, hair with unlimited twirls

A masterpiece so delicate must be protected so I put on my satin line bonnet like my ancestors directed

Moisturized with butter and oils my hair sits in twist, can’t let this magic dry out that’s why bonnets exists

My hair once used to free the enslaved, to not protect it now would be a betrayal to my race

In a world filled with inventions, it’s a satin line bonnet that gives black women a sense of protection

In a world that often rejects them, lack of affection, most educated out here but yet rarely ever mentioned, it’s my satin line bonnet that gives me a sense of protection

So Target, gas station, airport wherever

Call me ghetto, ratchet, trashy or whatever

At the end of the day it’s my satin lined bonnet that will protect me forever
