Angelia Stone, founder and CEO of Hope Magazine, has dedicated nearly two decades to creating a platform that uplifts and empowers women on their journey of self-discovery. Headquartered in Muncie, Indiana, Hope Magazine was launched in 2005 with a mission to celebrate women’s resilience and strength. As a prolific publisher, social media influencer, and author of Yes Sisters: Surrounding Yourself with Women Who Affirm, Encourage, and Challenge You, Stone continues to inspire women to embrace their worth, share their stories, and build meaningful connections.
Hope Magazine has become a beacon for women on their journey of self-discovery since its launch. What inspired you to create this publication, and what vision did you have for the impact it would make in the lives of women?
Hope Magazine was born from a deeply personal place — my own journey of healing, self-discovery, and a desire to empower others. I wanted to create a platform that celebrates the strength, resilience, and dreams of women, showing them that their stories matter. My vision was to inspire women to embrace their worth, pursue their passions, and see themselves reflected in a space that uplifts and encourages them.
You’ve been a pioneer in publishing for nearly two decades. What do you see as the next chapter for Hope Magazine?
The next chapter for Hope Magazine is all about expansion and deeper connection. I envision incorporating more digital elements like podcasts and webinars, increasing our global reach, and fostering a vibrant community where women can connect and grow. As we celebrate 20 years, the focus will be on amplifying diverse voices, sharing impactful stories, and ensuring Hope remains a trusted companion for women in every stage of their lives.
As a CEO, publisher, editor, social media influencer, and writer, you wear many hats. How do you stay true to your vision while balancing these diverse roles, and what keeps you motivated?
Balancing multiple roles requires clarity, purpose, and self-care. Staying true to my vision means keeping my mission at the forefront: empowering women. I set boundaries, prioritize my time, and surround myself with a supportive team. What keeps me motivated is knowing that every story we share and every connection we build has the power to change lives. It’s the stories of resilience and triumph from our readers that fuel me.
For women who aspire to start their own publications or pursue a career in media, what are the essential steps and mindset shifts you believe are necessary to turn their vision into reality?
First, believe in your vision wholeheartedly and know your “why.” Practical steps include thorough research, building a network of like-minded individuals, and staying consistent in your efforts. Mindset shifts include embracing failure as a learning opportunity, staying adaptable in a constantly evolving industry, and remembering that your unique voice is your strength. Authenticity and persistence are key to long-term success.
Your book “Yes Sisters” focuses on surrounding oneself with women who affirm, encourage, and challenge. Can you share a personal experience where the power of sisterhood helped you overcome a challenge, and how that inspired you to write the book?
One of the most profound experiences of sisterhood came during a particularly challenging season in my life when I felt unseen and unsupported. A dear friend reminded me of my worth and potential when I couldn’t see it myself. Her encouragement became a turning point for me and inspired the concept of “Yes Sisters.” I wanted to capture that essence — women holding each other up, pushing each other forward, and creating a community where we all thrive.
The theme of self-discovery is at the heart of your work. What does self-discovery mean to you, and what advice would you give to women who are just beginning their journey towards finding themselves?
To me, self-discovery means peeling back the layers of societal expectations and external validation to uncover your true self. It’s about embracing your flaws, celebrating your strengths, and walking in alignment with your purpose. For women just beginning this journey, my advice is to start small: journal, reflect, and surround yourself with people who uplift you. Be patient with yourself and understand that self-discovery is not a destination — it’s a lifelong process.
