Media Rock Star: A Look into the Success Story of Tammy Reese in Media and Entertainment

Tammy Reese, a devoted and knowledgeable enthusiast in the world of media and entertainment. Her lifelong dedication, educational background, and professional experiences all testify to her abiding love for all things media and entertainment.


Tammy's fascination with media and entertainment began as a child, acting out TV shows and films. Named after her mother's favorite actress, Tamara Dobson, she was destined for this work. She auditioned for a school play in elementary school and was selected for the lead. This was the start of something phenomenal.


Tammy auditioned for the Media Unit, which was a nonprofit teen performance and production group that was located in Syracuse, New York. The Media Unit eventually closed its doors on its stage and television production studio after working with Central NY youth for 43 years in 2019. Working with the Media Unit, Reese had opportunities to perform around Upstate New York and be a part of producing a live TV show in their studio, Rough Times Live. She was a part of The Media Unit for eight years, until it was time for her to enter college. She learned the skills, the discipline and the hard work that it takes in this industry. She credits her career to the Media Unit and its leader, the late Walt Shepperd. "He believed in me and I owe my career to him wholeheartedly".

In 2019, Tammy was awarded with the WCNY/PBS Makers Women Who Make America Award. As an independent media professional Tammy has covered industry events such as Tribeca Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, NJ Horror Con, NYC Hip Hop Film Festival, HBO/CINEMAX Urban Action Showcase Expo.


Tammy serves on the Communications Committee for New York Women in Film and Television. She is a member of the Syracuse Press Club, Co Chair of the Syracuse NAACP Public Relations Committee, and a member of ForbesBLK.
